Painted Agdor blue and expertly hand forged from premium Swedish steel, sharpened and ready to use out of the box. Accompanied by a leather sheath, handcrafted in Waynesville, N.C. using traditional methods. The cutting edge is approximately 4.25-inches in length. Note: all Hults Bruk axes are hand forged, so there may be slight variations from axe to axe.

This all-purpose hatchet makes light work of camp chores from clearing camp and making kindling, to chopping small trees, making hot dog spears, or driving tent stakes. My Stroy:

When I think back on my childhood and all the camping trips and adventures I went on with my family there are a few pieces of gear that I just cant forget. My dads old canvas sleeping bag, I can still remember how it smelled, the old pump kerosene lanterns, and the axe. So many days spent with that old gear and though it is long gone now I will never forget it. The old axe likely part of someone elses kit now as it was stolen from the back of the truck.

I have always wanted a quality axe. This has been something that I have thought about for a long time. I have bought them at yard sales and tried to restore them or bought new ones that were junk. So, when I had the chance to check out Hults Bruk I could not pass that up. I mean, Swedish steel and American hickory! C’mon, that plays on my ancestors and is in my blood. I had to get my hands on an Agdor!

First impressions were great. Extremely well balanced, oh so freaking sharp, very ergonomic handles, attractive design and a great leather sheath. These Hults Bruk Agdor products are meant to be used and shown off. I love that they are hand forged, not machine pressed or mass produced, as it makes it feel a bit more personal. It’s nice to know a person put their heart into this axe before it became mine. They really made something special.

So, moving on, I had a trip coming up into the back country of Idaho. We live out of a wall tent and splitting wood is a daily chore that is a must for survival. I was more than excited to not only use my new axe and hatchet but also to show them off to my hunting partners. And so the work began.

After splitting all the wood we had I noticed a singe round that had slipped away under a truck. Being the last piece to split I brought it over and gave it a whack. The axe stuck firmly into the wood and did not slit due to the half effort swing. I reached down with my left hand and braced the top of the log while pulling up on the axe. It happened so fast I hardly knew anything was wrong, but the gaping wound was hard to miss. So, of the mountain I went and into town for some stitches. Yeah, these things are freaking sharp!

A few stiches later and I was back at camp. Luckily, I missed the tendon, so it was a relatively minor injury. Now I had to make some kindling and what better tool is there for that than a hatchet? None, the answer is none.

After I had my go my buddy’s son wanted to get in on the fun. He is a great kid and he fancies cool gear. HE loved this hatchet and made short work of the rest of the pile to be split into kindling.

The finial test to transition this piece of gear from a tool to a family keepsake was to cut the family Christmas tree. We have made this a tradition and I was very excited to get out and use the new axe. We found the perfect tree and I went to work.

Once the tree was fallen I had to clean up the bottom a bit before we could drag it back to the truck .

One final picture of the family with the tree was the cherry on top. This was a great adventure with great gear. The Agdor line from Hults Bruk has found a home in my home. My children will someday pass this axe and hatchet to their children and that is what it’s all about. Quality products that will last not just a lifetime, but lifetimes!
