My Story:

Okay, this is not the first pump I have used but it very well may be the last! I know, what a way to start a review, but hey I really felt compelled to get the good out first. It’s no that often that I get the chance to test something that exceeds my expectations. This is one of those rare moments. So, lets get to it.

I love to camp in all forms. This may be as simple as going into the glamping sites of a packed lake or as far back as nature will allow. I do it all and I need gear that will allow me to do it all. One of my most dreaded camp tasks is inflating my sleeping pad, it just sucks no matter how you try and do it. I have all the tools and all the little gadgets, or at least I thought I did, then I found out about FLEXTAIL GEAR and the Tiny Pump 2X.

For testing comparison I used a small NeoAir pump that I had laying around. It is the same basic concept as the Tiny Pump 2X with a few major differences the first being power. I’m not going to nerd out on the amount of air flow so, just trust me that it’s a massive difference. How much? Well I can inflate my massive hammock pad in about 65 seconds with the FLEXTAIL Tiny Pump 2X, and by inflate I mean to make it ready to sleep on. The other one… Yeah, we’re going to be her for a while. Okay, at the 3 minute mark I felt that pump had done all it could and I still had to give the pad a few of my own breaths to get it to useable inflation. There is no comparison, the TINY PUMP 2X is the clear victor!

Ok, that was a simple home test so how does the pump work in the real world? I felt like a trip into the Goat Rocks Wilderness would be a great testing site so off we went. FLEXTAIL and the Tiny Pump 2X were on a PCT adventure and I was ready to see what it would do!

Night one went perfectly.

Subsequent nights went equally well with the pump doing exactly what was asked of it. This was an extremely brutal trip and much of camp was set up in darkness. I clumsily forgot to take photos during night set up as I had other things to focus on, such as falling into my hammock and falling instantly to sleep. Once the hike was over we had a layover night at a local camping spot. So, again it was time to work the Tiny Pump 2X.

So it is a pump and it does just that, it pumps air. Much like the other pump that I used. The big difference is that it actually works and that it has extras! The FLEXTAIL Tiny Pump 2X can also be used to deflate by simply changing the fill port to the opposite side of the pump. Inflate fast and deflate fast, this thing just saves time in every way it can!

Another great feature is the lamp. This pump comes equipped with at a great little lamp that can switch between 400 to 40 lumens. It also has a great little hanging point or magnetized bottom for mounting. One piece of gear with 3 uses, say it ain’t so! I really love multi-purpose gear as it saves weight and space in my pack. Just another homerun from FLEXTAIL!

My testing of this pump was a great experience right out of the gate. I used the pump for 6 days, cycling between inflating and deflating sleeping pads, and using the light sparingly at night. The battery held for the entirety of the trip and I have every confidence I could have gotten several more days out of it without charging.

To be honest I’m not sure what else could be done. This really is a great little tool that works exactly as advertised.
