While there are a handful of premium designer bags that are always on the radar of handbag aficionados (think Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Bottega Veneta, Celine, etc.), there are always a couple of brands that are most talked about each season.
Currently, Loewe and Bottega Veneta are reigning in the handbag world, and whether they’re you’re favorite or not, there’s no denying that both brands have been incredibly successful in the last few years.
A Popularity Contest
The most popular brands among consumers tend to rotate, and I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about the brands that aren’t getting the attention they deserve. While Miu Miu used to be one of the brands that wasn’t top of mind for many, that’s changed as the brand continues to have a renaissance of sorts.
Style, quality, and functionality are the main factors I consider when looking for a new bag, and truth be told, far more brands fall into those categories than I often think of right off the bat. So what about the rest of the brands that fall to the side, quietly waiting in the wings for their handbag boom?
You know, the ones that check off all of the boxes you look for but somehow remain forgotten? Why aren’t we giving them a second look? Jil Sander is one of those brands for me. Consistently, my eye is drawn to the brand’s bags when filtering new arrivals on our favorite e-tailers.
Yet, somehow, I keep forgetting that the brand has been around for over 50 years. Sander’s vision began with quiet minimalism, and throughout its many iterations of change, that original brand DNA has remained. Currently helmed by husband and wife duo Lucie and Luke Meier, Jil Sander’s bags offer a refined, clean, minimalistic vision with a hint of unique style.
Thanks to the current trend toward both neutrals and more quietly luxe pieces, I have a feeling I won’t be forgetting about Jil Sander anymore. Which handbag brand do you think is the most underrated?
